Hey! Student*

In a no doubt futile attempt to shift the discussion onto something new, Stephen Williams gave a rather bizarre response to the BEP when asked about his party's plans to do a U-turn on tuition fees. And he finished by saying that it doesn't matter much anyway, "as a lot of students in Bristol West either did not vote locally or not at all." I wonder if he's going to put in an appearance at the Freshers' Fair tomorrow?

* Yes, the song titles are back!

He's an odd fellow, that's for sure. You would think that he might:
a) Recognise that it was the students wot won it for him in the first place.
b) Not needlessly slag off about a quarter of his electorate by telling them they're all apathetic.

Still, given that the Lib Dems have now adopted a fiscal policy which Margaret Thatcher would have been proud of, nothing is too surprising anymore.

He didn't make it there this morning and the students on the lib dem stand are distancing themselves from his stance on tuition fees - its not our policy they say

he didn't turn up during the afternoon either

If song titles are back am I allowed to quote a few of the lyrics from Oh Mandy,

Oh Mandy won't you listen to what I've got to say
Oh Mandy don't you let me throw it all away
Oh Mandy won't you listen to what I've got to say
and I need you today, oh Mandy

Not on this post, you're not.

But if you insist: "Oh Mandy, well you came and you gave without taking, and I sent you away [But then brought you back. Twice]"

I'd have thought you'd be more an I'm Mandy Fly Me man?

Forget Mandelson (and the low profile return of Campbell for that matter). Surely their style of PR and spin is old hat? How about a cabinet place for Joe Kinnear? He's the man to liven up your image management and media handling.

Mandelson, Myners, more of what has brought us to economic chaos. Madness!

It's interesting to see the number of unelected people being put in to government.

As well as Myners and Mandelson there's also Stephen Carter who was only recently appointed Brown's communication advisor having spent time as an advertising exec and at Ofcom.

It's hard to see what he's done that deserves promotion to government though. His achievements seem to consist of endless leaks to 'PR Week'about himself; setting up a No 10 Twitter account and spending £100k on a Wordpress blog for Gordon!

"Peter Mandelson’s reign in Brussels as trade commissioner has been characterised by a truly aggressive approach to trade with developing countries, and a determination to prioritise the interests of European big business at all costs." Julian Oram, head of policy of the World Development Movement

"Peter Mandelson has jeopardised the livelihoods of millions of working people through his reckless pursuit of deregulation. This is not the man we need to take over one of the UK’s most important ministries at a time of such financial turmoil." John Hilary, executive director of War on Want,

"If there was ever a time to put the high priest of corporate globalisation in charge of regulating our wayward economy, this isn't it." Green Leader Caroline Lucas, MEP

You don't like Barry Manilow, do you?

Terry, like Barry Manilow! How insulting can you get! How can I leave this unanswered? I think the last half dozen songs or so that I've listened to are by: Pink Floyd; The Who; Thin Lizzy; Nirvana; Bruce Springsteen; Peter Gabriel...That'll give you some idea what music I like (though I must have music by over 100 different individuals/groups, from very old blues stuff through to The Streets...).
