Horrible soups

Two tweets arrived in rapid succession: "Why sharks belong in the sea and not in soup" from those End of the Line folks (film being shown at the Watershed in August) and this truly horrible picture from National Geographic. Have to admit I don't even know what a pangolin is (a scaly anteater, says National Geographic). I don't suppose it's the most attractive creature, but still, who on earth would want to spoon up a mouthful of foetus?

In case you wanted to know...

In Zimbabwe, pangolins are the equivalent of royal game: only a chief may eat one - that's after it's been born in Zimbabwe. Chiefs do so rarely so they are well protected under customary law.

How on earth do you know that?

That's where I lived until two years ago. Now I'm dissappointed in the surveillance society, that information (and my sock size) was supposed to be available to you, as a parliamentary official, the moment you clicked on my username! Oh well, maybe we're slightly more paranoid than we should be...

Actually I looked at your (very good) blog afterwards and realised you are a much-travelled man. As for your sock size, you can keep that to yourself for now.

Actually... am I bit a bit slow here? Are you the guy in Bristol I met at the MDC party and again at the Sierra Leone community launch event?

No, I'm not. Not actually been in Bristol recently...
