BBC boss blogs on his aid appeal ban

The BBC's editor-in-chief, Mark Thompson, having put his hapless namesake, Christine Thompson, up as spokesperson all day, has blogged about the DEC decision. He doesn't seem to have convinced people, judging from the Comments, including this one, which starts by quoting his words back at him:

"Finally, it is important to remember that our decision does not prevent the DEC continuing with their appeal for donations and people are able to contribute should they choose to
."

Good, so can I choose to withold my license fee and give it to the DEC appeal instead?

I suspect that might give people ideas! And yes, it should be licence not license, but I am beginning to recognise that's a lost cause. I blame Bill Gates.

Kerry, hallelujah, you are saying things I don't understand again. So, what is the lost cause, and what has Bill Gates got to do with it.

Spelling licence the English way and not license, the American way. And it's Bill Gates' fault because people are always having to approve 'license agreements' on their computers. I have mentioned this many times before on this blog. You are not paying attention.

OK Miss, sorry for not paying attention, come on though, you have to admit, it is nice to see me back.

Hadn't noticed you'd gone.

After seeing an English magistrate write 'offense' I felt civilisation had finally crumbled. It was nearly enough to make me write to the Mail.

I certainly blame Bill Gates for the indignity of having to choose 'English (Great Britain)' as a language option. However, it's fairly obvious the British are out of step with the world on the meaning of 'asian' and the sooner 'West Indian' is consigned to history the less embarrassing it will be all round. (Note to history: Chris, even if you had correctly identified the continent it would have been the East Indies. Blokes are meant to be the ones that can read maps you dickhead).

Kerry, the prevalence of hostile commenters has caused you to show unexpected claws. You slapped down OH rather well recently. Have you ever considered you might have a undiscovered natural skill with a hakapik? You're never too old to go clubbing. Go on, just for a laugh.

Kerry - are you advocating that people should withhold their license fee if the BBC are not seen to be fit for purpose?

This is brilliant:

It's LICENCE!!!!!!!!!!!

So it would be okay to withhold a license fee from the BBC because there is no license fee.

Did you hear him on the Today programme - Mark Thompson not Bill Gates - tied in knots and hung by his own petard

Great communication Kerry.

Do I take that as a yes or a no?

p.s. when writing for academic journals these days, it is often specified that U.S. english, or UK english spelling is acceptable. Get over it.
