How could we have both forgot John Lennon's 'Merry Christmas, War is Over'?

I'm still trying to recover from Tom proudly displaying his treasured photo with Noddy Holder.

Ms McCarthy has directed us to an erudite discussion of the conjugation of the verb 'to forget'.

Having read all of it, it is clear that the acceptability of 'forgot' as the past participle is, if not formally incorrect, no more than marginally formally acceptable, to the degree that it can be regarded as incorrect.

'Have forgotten' is the overwhelmingly accepted usage, to the degree that it is deemed correct.

No more than marginally formally acceptable is good enough for me. It's a blog! And I'm from Luton.
